FAQs

Expecting A Baby?

Choosing an obstetrician is making the choice for a premium service that gives you a sense of assurance that you and your baby will be expertly cared for during pregnancy and labour.

To us, each one of our patients is unique, and so is the individual care each patient receives.

Dr Marisa Martin and Dr Reena Mohan understand you need consistent care and expect high-level clinical skills that open the door to a full range of options which give you more choices to experience pregnancy and labour the way you want.

Both Dr Martin and Dr Mohan combine this high-level clinical expertise with a respectful and compassionate manner that ensures every expectant mum knows she is listened to and is given the important information to help her make the right decisions.

No patients feel rushed with Dr Marisa Martin and Dr Reena Mohan. Every patient is given the time they need. Every patient is given our doctors personal mobile numbers, should they ever need more from us outside regular consultation times.

Just like every patient is unique, so too is the support we offer to each expectant mum.

Regardless of the variation in care we offer to each patient, our obstetrician fees are charged as one single package for the entire pregnancy, so you don’t have to worry about any unexpected costs in the future.

Typically, we might schedule appointments every four weeks up to 28 weeks of pregnancy. This increases to fortnightly visits and then weekly visits as you get closer to your due date.

Though, every expectant mum has their own journey, so we would vary that approach depending on yours and your baby’s needs.

Just contact our office and we’ll be sure to answer any questions you may have about our services.

You will see Dr Marisa Martin or Dr Reena Mohan on your first visit. They will review your medical history, check your blood pressure, review your scan and pathology. You can also see your baby with an ultrasound and check your baby’s heartbeat.

Dr Martin or Dr Mohan will then go through what to expect from our service during your pregnancy and labour. They will take the time to discuss all the questions or concerns you have about the coming stages of your pregnancy.

By the end of your consultation you’ll be assured of the right next steps to manage your pregnancy journey and options available to you and your baby to best manage your health.

Your first obstetrician appointment is typically scheduled around Week 8 to 10 of your pregnancy. But, expectant mums may see us any time before then, especially if they have had complications from earlier pregnancies.

Of course, if you’re working to get pregnant and would like fertility advice from a gynaecologist, we are here to help whenever you need.

Our wait list is reasonable, given both Dr Marisa Martin and Dr Reena Mohan limit patient numbers to ensure that you receive the best quality care.

If you would like an appointment, do call us and we’ll work to accommodate your needs.

You will need a referral from you GP before you arrive.

It would help if you can also bring a copy of your medical history and pregnancy scans or ask your GP to email that to us.

Our costs are very competitive, compared to other Sydney obstetricians.

At Specialist Services for Women you’ll know exactly what you’ll pay, with no hidden costs or changes to consultation or birthing charges, regardless how your pregnancy and labour progresses.

No matter what your choice of delivery, our costs remain the same.

Please contact our office if you have an enquiry regarding fees.

There may be some patients who may require extra services. In these situations, extra charges would be fully explained upfront before you proceed:

PATHOLOGY: Our costs include all obstetrician costs. Pathology services in most instances are bulk billed. In hospital, pathology services may incur additional charges. Ultrasounds may also incur some out of pocket charges.

ANAESTHETIC: Should you require an epidural or general anaesthetic; you will be charged by the anaesthetist separately.

Our expectant mums come from many situations.

Here are some examples where expectant mums have different circumstances. If any of these reflect your situation, we welcome you to contact us for more information about our fees and packages.

  • I have a private health fund, and can access Medicare
  • I don’t have a private health fund and will pay for these services personally, but can claim some back on Medicare
  • I have a private health fund, but am from overseas so I can’t access Medicare
  • I have no private health insurance or Medicare, so will be personally paying for these services
